I. List of Police investigator duties:

  1. Conduct background investigations (BIs) in accordance with federal directives and provide timely and quality Reports of Investigation (ROIs) in support of Personnel Security Programs of Customers within the Intelligence Community (IC)
  2. Investigators shall obtain pertinent details, examples, and justification for comments made by sources or the subject, and shall not leave questions unanswered.
  3. Conduct BIs in accordance with EO 12968 and ICD 704.1
  4. Provide complete, detailed, typed Report of Investigation in accordance with IC guidance and IRTPA timeliness standards
  5. Ensure Reports of Investigation are quality reviewed to ensure conformance with directives and customer requirements
  6. Comply with standards, to include scope, coverage, expansion to ensure full issue resolution, subject/former spouse interviews, education, employment, references, neighborhoods, and public records checks, to include those court records as necessary to determine/verify final disposition of all legal matters. Confirm birth, citizenship and serial numbers and include additional elements as required.
  7. Safeguard the BI and all materials with Personally Identifiable Information (PII) with the highest degree of discretion
  8. Properly handle, retain, and dispose of case materials
  9. Attend vendor-provided/COR-approved initial and refresher training, as required; training may consist of classroom, on-the- job, and/or computer-based training and ensure investigators continually meet national investigative standards
  10. Use IC-issuedcredentials only for the purpose of conducting BIs on behalf of the appropriate IC customer.
  11. Immediately report any security incidents: lost/stolen credentials, mishandling (lost/stolen/compromised) of case materials/PII, or improper use of equipment.
  12. Other duties as assigned.
II. List of Police investigator qualifications

  1. Candidates with experience conducting OPM background investigations preferred; candidates with 4 years of general work experience or a Bachelor's degree may be considered
  2. Active federal security clearance with an SSBI is preferred; if chosen candidate does not have an active clearance, the candidate must be able to obtain & maintain a federal government security clearance, which includes an investigation of 10+ years of history including items such as residence, education, employment, financial, medical, and personal records
  3.  U.S. citizenship (required for security clearance)
  4. Due to travel requirements, a valid driver's license and reliable transportation with proof of current auto insurance are required
  5. Candidates selected for this position must pass a mandatory post-offer drug test per contract requirements
  6. Intermediate typing (20+ WPM) and computer skills
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  8. Ability to effectively manage time and work independently
  9. Ability to professionally and effectively interact with a variety of individuals
