I. List of School police duties:

  1. This position provides direct administrative support to the Director, including assuming the administrative and command duties in the Director's absence.
  2. This position directly supervises the Division Commanders. This position also directly supervises any employees assigned to a special project or grant funded project over which the position has authority.
  3. This position develops and implements special programs including the planning and assigning of responsibilities to others within the department. Special programs may include special large scale purchases; grant funded programs, operational plans for large scale events, job task analyses, organizational planning, and other programs requiring special planning expertise.
  4. This position is responsible for full decision making authority on behalf of the Director for University wide enterprise systems with police implications; i.e., University Camera System, Alarm System, Reports Management System, Computer Aided Dispatch System, and Access Management Systems.
  5. This position is responsible for long and short term planning including the analysis of crime statistic information and the formulation of Department wide goals and objectives. This position ensures that all Department goals are directly related to the goals, objectives, and educational mission of the University.
  6. This position serves as the Professional Standards coordinator, managing investigations of alleged employee misconduct.
  7. This position serves as liaison for the Department and as the representative of the Director with a variety of agencies including other University Departments, outside law enforcement agencies, and community groups.
  8. This position has primary responsibility for the accreditation process through the Commission on the Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies.
II. List of School police qualifications

  1. High school diploma or GED
  2. Texas Peace Officer License issued by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE)
  3. Valid Texas driver’s license
  4. General knowledge of criminal investigation, police report writing, and criminal laws
  5. Training and ability to subdue offenders, including use of firearms and handcuffs
  6. Bonded as required by Texas Education Code §37.081(h)
  7. Ability to pass required physical, psychiatric, and drug tests
  8. Ability to work well with youth and adults
  9. Background in law enforcement or related work experience
